Divergence: Photographs from Elsewhere
In partnership with Andrew Nicholls, Sharmila curated the exhibition Divergence: Photographs from Elsewhere at the historic Midland Railway Workshops. FORM presented this monumental showcase of contemporary photography, comprising hundreds of images by artists based in fifteen countries.
Extending FORM’s recent partnership with FotoFreo, Divergence: The Photographers’ Cut surveyed the work of some of the world’s most innovative photographers and photojournalists, positioning the organisation as a significant contributor to the FotoFreo 2012 Open Exhibition Program. The exhibition invited Western Australian audiences to immerse themselves in the atmospheric setting of the Midland Railway Workshops while encountering divergent photographic perspectives—from highly stylised portraits of orphaned children in Ukraine, to playfully kitsch images of Russia, and intimate depictions of domestic life in India.
FORM also hosted the Divergence Public Program, Stories from Elsewhere, a series of artists’ talks held on Saturday 17 March, which brought participating artists from across the globe to share their practice. This program offered audiences a rare opportunity for international exchange and dialogue, underscoring FORM’s dedication to fostering cultural connection and creative discourse.
